The Tim Parry and Johnathon Ball Foundation For Peace
Also known simply as the Peace Centre or Foundation for Peace
A very special place, I always feel at home in the Peace Centre, and I have made so many special friends and got involved in great projects and events with them. Founders Colin and Wendy Parry are an inspiration to me; and I learn so much from them every time we meet.
The Miriam Hyman Memorial Trust
Beautiful Miriam sadly lost her life on the same bus as I was injured on July 7th 2005. Her family and friends set up the Miriam Hyman Memorial Trust in May 2008 and equipped the Miriam Hyman Children’s Eye Care Centre within the L V Prasad Eye Institute in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India. This is a living memorial; a place of hope, healing and rehabilitation for children who need eye care services, irrespective of the ability to pay. Since its inauguration on 03 July 2008 there have been 37,300 Outpatients appointments (25% without charge) and 3,400 surgeries (50% without charge) (July 2012).
Miriam was an artist and her art work is quite simply equisite, and brings joy to me every time I look through one of my most treasured possessions, the book of her art work.
The Mines Advisory Group
An amazing landmine charity, with whom I travelled to Cambodia and participated in the Community Challenge to build 2 houses for landmine survivors. A very special time for me with a very special charity.
10% of MAGs workforce are landmine survivors and are such an inspiration to me. Their courage and strength to return to the minefields and clear the danger for others overwhelms me.
The Forgiveness Project
I first met founder Marina at the Peace Centre, a look through the gallery of stories and portraits she has collected from around the globe always lifts my spirits, and I learn so much from their stories and wisdom.
I’ve promised to share my story with the project… just as soon as Marina and I manage to find the time to be in the same place at the same time and do it justice! I’m sure we’ll manage one day!
Building Bridges For Peace
Founder Jo Berry and her journey are quite simply inspirational and testament to the process of forgiveness and reconcilliation.
